The German Library in Helsinki is a multicultural place of encouters, open for everyone. Visitors can find over 45,000 volumes of literature studies, linguistics, fiction, children's and youth books as well as daily newspapers. The library represents German-Finnish-relations, helds an unique Fennica-collection and organizes author visits.

Found in 1877 by a private association, the German Library is looking back on a long history and is now starting to orientate towards its future potentials. A new corporate design concept shall contribute to communicate the institutions visions, to increase its identity and recognition value. The former design is to give way to a modernized and fresher aesthetic, aiming at simplicity and abstraction.

Composed of single dots, the design concept refers to an analogue print technique. It reminds of the sensory presence of books smelling of printer's ink and the magic of an old book collection. At the same time a dynamic fresh color fusion visualizes the merging of different cultures which are floating around freely like a cloud or a swarm, detached from national and territorial boundaries. For a multicultural and multilingual community.

The design work is currently ongoing and a new logo and website is discussed for 2023.
